PRACTICE AREAS

Special Needs and Supplemental Needs Trusts/Disability Issues

Special Needs and Supplemental Needs Trust (SNTs) may be used to retain assets in order to improve an elder or disabled child's quality of life without disqualifying them from public benefits they receive and depend upon, such as Social Security or Long-Term Care MassHealth. These trusts are often created if a beneficiary receives an inheritance or receives a personal injury settlement or award. SNTs may be created by a parent, grandparent, guardian or the court, usually as part of a person's estate plan.
